Jewel of the West Coast

Misty, cold, windy, historic, intriguing. A few words to describe the seaport of Port Nolloth. It is also the gateway to the Richtersveld National Park.

The town was originally named Aukwatowa  (Where the water took away the old man away ) by the Nama people of the area. Port Nolloth is renowned for its copper, diamond and fishing industries.

There are a myriad of sea shells to collect on the beach. I love the rocky and ruggedness of the Port Nolloth beach. And the bamboo that adorn it.

Far in the distance you can see the white dunes that is accessible via 4×4. This Historic town has plenty of guesthouses and accommodation to choose from. Soak up the atmosphere and the sun. Enjoy a lazy afternoon walk on the beach and if you are lucky you might spot some flamingoes.

Visit the local museum and learn ahout the rich history of the area. Enjoy a meal of fresh fish and chips from the local cafés. Or take a drive to nearby McDougalls Bay.

Wind in your hair, toes in the sand and salt on your skin. Port Nolloth. Worth a visit.
